What is news literacy and why does it matter in our lives?
News literacy means news that is important to some people because they can learn or say about what is happening around the globe. News literacy matters in our lives because we can learn or we can say what is going on in the world. We should be able to do this because we have freedom of the press and freedom of speech.
What is the importance of freedom of the press throughout history and to the present?
You can write what you feel and not be arrested for saying stuff or writing stuff about people. Freedom of the press is the first amendment. It is part of the bill of rights. An amendment is an add on to the constitution. You cannot have a democracy if you don't have freedom of the press if you don't have freedom of the press you cant stand up for what you believe. In other places if you stand up you can get arrested or killed that is why we have a awesome place to live.
What is censorship? What are some countries that practice censorship? Why do you think some governments censor things that people write?
Censorship is government control over information books media etc. Because sometimes the truth can hurt and the government does not want the news spreading because it might affect them to.Because if they say something about you would you like it? I know that i wouldn't like because it might not be true or it is true but it is bad.
What purpose do journalists have in our world?
Journalists are important because they tell us the truth. They can tell us what is hapening in the outside world. They can show us the recent places where important events have happened like recent bomb attacks, mass shootings, or other crime.
What kinds of rules or ethical decision do journalists need to make when they are reporting news?
They make rules not to copy. Not to make people angry. Just telling the truth because they can get in trouble. If they get caught copying they get fired and can't be hired in another news company. They can lose their best job and have to look for another job even though they liked their old job.
Information requires verification to be effective.
What does the quote above mean? Do you agree or disagree?
The quote means information should be verified (checking the facts) before being published or it should be fact-checked. I agree because if you say something false and people believe what you said, it might hurt someone because it is not true. So, the people that work in publishing should fact check it or verify it before publishing the news story.
What did you do today? What did you learn about working in teams,problem-solving,and being a journalist?
I cracked codes that were attached to a box to find clues about the senator John Thompson missing we had to find clues like a flashlight that uncovered invisible ink that showed us red herrings and secret clues there was also a website to find more clues and after all those clues we broke out. This experience helped me learn more about journalists and team work if some people want to be journalists they should try it.
